Dryer lint is easy to underestimate because it looks harmless in the screen. But once it packs into the wrong places, it can raise temperatures, stretch dry times and make the dryer work harder than it should.
I wrote this guide for homeowners who want a clear read on the symptom before scheduling service. A blog post cannot diagnose a machine from across town, but it can help you collect the right clues and avoid the most common wrong turns.
Long dry times are the early warning
If towels need two or three cycles, airflow belongs in the conversation. Heat without airflow just steams the load and keeps moisture trapped.
The laundry room should not feel like a sauna
A hot room, hot dryer top or damp smell during drying can suggest the exhaust air is not leaving the house properly. Check the exterior vent while the dryer runs.
A clean lint screen is not the whole system
The screen catches some lint, not all of it. The blower area and vent run still matter. If the dryer makes noise, overheats, or smells hot, schedule service before running another heavy load.
What I would check on a service call
On a real visit, I compare the symptom with the model design, installation, airflow or water path, and any stored error codes. I also look for the simple stuff first, because a blocked vent, dirty filter, loose connection or loading issue can imitate a failed part.
